My role Product direction and UX/UI

Discovery, playlist structure, search, filters, and listening notes

Platform Responsive website

A place-based music atlas

Collection 9 destination playlists

From Spain and València to Newfoundland and Labrador

Core value Context before playback

Each playlist gives listeners a way into the music

Project value

## Move from curiosity about a place to music with context.

### What the experience needed to support

- ✓

Make the destinations easy to browse and compare.

- ✓

Help listeners find a place, artist, or song.

- ✓

Keep listening cues and cultural context close to each playlist.

Problem

### A playlist link carries little context.

It may not explain why these songs belong together or how they connect to a place.

Risk

### One list can flatten many voices.

A single genre label can hide regional scenes, languages, and different musical histories.

Direction

### Start with place, then add context.

Show a playlist's scope, notes, and listening cues before the listener opens Spotify.

Design decisions

## Let each listener choose how far to explore.

01

### Make place the first choice

Destination-led discovery

Each card pairs a place with a short description, music tags, and a song count. Region filters group Spain and the islands, Europe, and Atlantic Canada.

Intended impact

Help people choose a musical portrait before they commit to a long playlist.

02

### Search across the collection

Flexible entry

The search covers destinations, artists, and songs. Listeners can also combine it with a regional filter.

Intended impact

Support both open browsing and a search that begins with a known name or track.

03

### Put context beside playback

One clear next step

A playlist overview leads to an ordered track list, then one Listen on Spotify action. Track notes remain in the same detail view.

Intended impact

Keep the move from reading to listening easy to follow.

04

### Give each song a listening cue

Guided attention

Each track pairs a short explanation with a Listen for cue. Context links support further reading where available.

Intended impact

Give listeners a detail to notice without asking them to read a long essay first.

05

### State the limits of each portrait

Cultural care

The site says its playlists offer an introduction, not a complete account of every community or musical form. It also explains how a song connects to a place.

Intended impact

Make the editorial choices legible and leave room for what the collection does not cover.
